On Wednesday, Otto Andersson, Chair of the Swedish Parliamentary Group, spoke in the opening debate of the parliamentary session. He underlined the need for cooperation.
“We have to avoid polarisation and instead build trust in the Finnish society,” Andersson says.
The focus shouldn’t be on who says something, but on the content of the message.
“In difficult times, Finland needs less antagonism and more cooperation; fewer social media provocations and more constructive dialogue; fewer threat scenarios and doomsday trumpets; more mutual solutions and belief in the future. I hope and believe that together, here in Parliament, we can achieve something better. Because Finns truly deserve it,” Andersson says.
Collaboration will be needed on several crucial issues during the current term. The parliamentary working group set to assess the financing of social and health services, with representation from all parliamentary groups, will start working in the spring. It is essential to reform the defective funding system, so that the wellbeing services counties can sort out their finances and offer proper care. At the same time, we must safeguard access to care, continue investing in comprehensive schools, fix farming’s profitability crisis and implement more measures to improve employment and growth.
“Finns are not interested in any pointing of fingers between the government and the opposition. They are interested in solutions,” Andersson says.
