SFP went into both the municipal and county elections with strong candidate lists. Once the votes had been counted, the results confirmed good outcomes for the party, not only in the county elections but also in many municipalities. SFP grew in several municipalities and goes into the next electoral term as the biggest party in the wellbeing services counties of East Uusimaa and Ostrobothnia.
“Looking at the election results, it is clear that SFP has enjoyed success in the county elections all around the country, winning 6,300 more votes than previously. Questions related to health and social care engaged many voters. In the municipal elections we managed not only to retain the strong positions we already had, but to reinforce them in many regions. At the same time, we can see municipalities where even more focused efforts are needed,” says SFP party president Anders Adlercreutz.
“SFP’s excellent election results demonstrate that there is a greater need for bridge-building than ever before. Our list of candidates was young, diverse, multilingual and multifaceted – just like Finland is today. Therein lies our strength. It didn’t occur by chance; it is a consequence of our values. We believe that humanity and economy cannot be placed in opposition to each other; that courage, equality and education are not soft values but the foundations for a sustainable society.”
SFP did particularly well in Uusimaa. Overall, the party maintained a similar number of votes than in the preceding municipal elections, which indicates stable and strong support from the electorate. In the East Uusimaa wellbeing services county, SFP saw an increase of 760 votes, retained all of its previous seats and continues as the largest party. In West Uusimaa, the party improved its position further, with one additional seat.
In the municipal elections, SFP retained almost all of its seats in the electoral district of Vaasa. In the county of Ostrobothnia, the party lost its simple majority position but continues as the biggest party. In Southwest Finland, the party’s support increased by 1,500 votes but it lost one seat due to changes to the election process, which affected the previous elections’ distribution of mandates. In the municipal elections, the party’s results were nearly identical to the previous round four years previously.
“It is now time to start our important work in the municipalities and counties. We have finished campaigning, and now our duties await. We will fulfil them together, transcending language boundaries, for the sake of Finland as a whole. Democracy lives on, not only on election day but every day: in our daily work and in the smallest of decisions. I am proud of the support shown to SFP, and honoured to be leading the party. It feels good to work further towards our next goals,” Adlercreutz concludes.
